Forum Title: How to cover carpet tack nails for 1 day?
I have an interesting dilemma. My friend and I are renting out an apartment in the party district in St. Louis for the upcoming Mardi Gras celebration in 2 weeks. The unit is between renters, and we will only have it for a week ourselves. We are planning on having a pretty big bash there. Currently the carpet is ripped up and the bare floor is exposed. This is actually good, as Mardi Gras tends to get dirty and messy, and we don't want to have to pay for repairs. However, the only issue is that there are exposed carpet tack nails on the perimeter of the rooms, as well as on the stairs leading up to the 2nd & 3rd levels (and bathrooms). The rooms aren't such a big deal, but I could easily see some people (after several hurricanes) spiking their foot on these nails. The realtor is re-carpeting after the party, so we can't just remove them. Any suggestions to cheaply cover these exposed nails for just one day of heavy traffic?

Cut strips of bright colored carpet and staple to tackstrip. An inch or two is sufficient. Use short staples in a hand stapler.

I'm a noob at this- where would be the best place to find such carpet? And what's the best way to cut it? Thanks.
